ServerBOM

Server configuration & estimation

Configure a server, know what it costs to run.

ServerBOM is a configurator for a single server at a time: pick a chassis, add processors, memory, drives, power supplies, network and PCI cards from built-in HPE and Dell parts lists (or type your own), and see the estimated power draw and acoustic footprint update as you go. Save a build as a favorite to reuse as a template, and export the bill of materials whenever you need it.

Web node (DL380 Gen12) 625 W
CPU 2 processors · 64 cores
Memory 1 TB in 8 modules
Storage 4 drives · 15.36 TB
Power Supplies 2 · 800 W each
Estimated 625 W from the parts
Power is estimated from the parts you add, not just the model's typical figure.

How it works

One server at a time, saved as a build you can reopen, duplicate or export.

  1. Pick a model

Choose an HPE ProLiant or Dell PowerEdge chassis (or an HPC system) to start a new build.

  2. Configure it

Add processors, memory, drives, power supplies, network adapters and PCI cards from the vendor's own parts list.

  3. See the estimates

Power and sound power update live as you add parts, with warnings if the power supplies can't carry the load.

  4. Save and reuse

Mark it a favorite to use as a template, duplicate it for the next order, or export the bill of materials.

What you can do

Built-in parts, or type your own

About 900 HPE ProLiant parts (Gen10 to Gen12, with HPE part numbers) and about 440 Dell PowerEdge parts (14G to 17G), or any part number and description you type in.

Power from the parts

Once the processors are listed, power is estimated from every part instead of the model's typical figure, with a warning if a failed power supply would leave the rest short.

Acoustic estimate

Where a model's datasheet sound power is known, see the estimated level idle and operating at a distance and room you choose.

Favorites and templates

Star a build to keep it handy, and duplicate any build to start the next one from a known-good configuration.

Export the BOM

The server and every part, with part numbers, quantities and estimated watts, as an Excel workbook, CSV or plain text file.

Import and export builds

Export a build as JSON to share or back up, and import one back in (its name is freed up automatically if it's already taken).

Good to know

  • Runs on your own server

A small Python server with no dependencies. Everything is kept in one SQLite file that's easy to back up.

  • Free to sign up

Create your own account in seconds, no invitation needed. Builds are private to the person who saved them.

  • Specs are estimates

Built-in power, weight and sound figures are typical values, not vendor spec sheets. Check critical numbers with the manufacturer.
